Crossing the border?

Remember CBAM

A topic that is widely discussed:

CBAM

It also raises questions for us. We understand and support the European Commission's goal: to take steps towards sustainability and a greener environment. CBAM is a new European Union regulation. The aim is to tax CO2 emissions released during the production of materials outside Europe, thereby creating a more level playing field between European and non-European producers.

At the same time

the current implementation of CBAM is causing a great deal of uncertainty. The regulations are complex and difficult to apply in practice. For example, it is not yet clear what emission values and prices we should use, as these will not be finalised until 2027. As a result, we are currently unable to provide our customers with completely accurate information.

What do we need?

Emission data

In addition, CBAM requires a lot of time and energy. Collecting emission data from suppliers outside the EU is complicated and does not always run smoothly, partly because emission data is not always available in countries outside the EU. This creates additional administrative pressure and unrest within the market.

In short

Although we support the sustainability objectives of CBAM, we find the current implementation complex and impractical. We hope that the regulations will become clearer and more workable for all parties involved in the future.
