1.4462 Duplex

1.4462 Duplex stainless steel combines many of the advantageous properties of ferritic and austenitic materials to achieve both high durability and good corrosion resistance. Thanks to their high chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen contents and their duplex structure, these types of steel offer many advantages compared to the austenitic properties of the 300 series.

Advantages of Duplex 1.4462:
✓ High durability – about twice as high as that of austenitic steel types
✓ Good resistance against pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion
✓ Great resistance against stress – corrosion crack formation
✓ Good erosion and fatigue resistance
✓ Good weldability and increased heat transfer abilities
✓ More stable pricing due to lower nickel content than austenitic steel types

Applications of 1.4462 Duplex

Thanks to its high durability and corrosion resistance, 1.4462 Duplex steel types are used in a wide range of applications, such as: pressure vats, reactor reservoirs, heat exchangers, desalination systems, salt-water systems, water transport pipes, rotors, impellors and shafts in industrial applications. Duplex stainless steel is also used to manufacture stock machines and other equipment for the pulp & paper industry, absorption towers, FGD systems to combat air pollution, the production of phosphoric acid, foodstuffs, oil, gas, mining and bio fuel production.
